POLL: The Prediction Question (Part-1)

Well, it seems we're in the mist of a war. No No NO.. Not 'that' war! I mean the war of the Smartphone Platforms, of course. You know, it wasn't all that long ago that when We thought of smartphones, usually OS's like Windows Mobile or Palm came to mind. Well.. that all got shot to HeLL as soon as Apple got into the mix with their device.. Hmmmmmm, what's the name of that thing, again? Oh well, never mind. :P

The thing I'm getting at here is about the battle that is going on; not with the devices themselves, but with the Operating Systems they run on. There's a lot out there for the consumer to choose from right now, but as history has shown us over and over again.. only the strong survive. Now, You may 'think' you know which is the best and which will emerge from this war the leader.. but do You? Or are you just judging by what appears to be KooL and 'iT' at the moment?

Whens it come to Technology, a Great Deal can happen in just a matter of 10 years. For example, 10 years ago, the idea of a mobile phone with a "color" screens was totally unheard of.. although I'm willing to bet that in Japan, it was probably old news, already. HAHA! XD Anyway, with that in mind, I want you to think about the future of Smartphones.. 10 Years into the Future, to be exact. What Platform do You believe will be the Dominant OS in Smartphones, and what do You think will be.. well... just Dead. :pinch:

It's a tough one, I know, which is why we're breaking this poll up into multiple parts, to try to get a real consensus on what Your predictions will be. How about we go right for the jugular to start things off....

In 10 Years, Which of these Mobile Platforms will be DEAD?

PS: Feel Free to Post You Comments, Too! ;)

Well, after a hard time thinking, I could make a choice...

This is what I thought: iPhone definitely not, why? Easy, as long as Apple lives they are going to keep the OS if not on the iPhone (I don't think it will disappear) on the ipods. Then windows mobile, no while windows exist... another market giant, will always be there even if not in big amount.
Symbian... Nokia will NEVER implement another OS than their own. Android will get blackberry for 2.15 billon dollars into 3 years max. Then linux will always be the cheap good alternative and palm... well.. it's palm, present everywhere not only on smartphones.

Think different? Share your thoughts! The thread is open :)

You Make a Very Good Point about each, Dude! Although, I kinda have to disagree about one of them. Nokia has shown their lack of commitment recently, with the downfall for their N-Gage platform. I just get the feeling they they might be in a position of backpedaling right now, and trying to come up with some king of "Silver Bullet" to either Seriously Compete with or Kill off one of their revels. That's why I'm thinking that sometime within the NeXt 10 Years, Symbian might get the Axe. Not Sure it I wanna make that My Final answer, yet. :S

Well, you have time to think about that, the poll just begin :)

I thought about that too, but then i remembered that nokia had always problems with each symbian platform and since the N-Gage phone sucked they released new symbian versions, what i see now is the s60v5 IU and nearly the 10 version of the OS. In the case they implement a new bullet into their high-end repertory they still can use symbian as secondary OS to cover up the mid-range s40 devices.

Hi Bell,

it's sad that I can select only one platform. I would like to vote for Symbian and Palm (now, I only voted for Palm which will probably die earlier). And, 'Linux' itself is maybe to unspecific (as e.g. Android is also kind-of Linux clone).

Sorry to say that I voted for Symbian :( even Nokia themselves are ditching their old creature for something completely different like a Linux-based open source platform! This is the right way to compete against Apple, in my opinion. I love Symbian but it's an old and closed platform, I don't think its future will be so bright...
